What is ELAD?

An investigational biologic treatment for patients with acute liver failure.  It uses cells derived from the patient’s liver to remove toxins from and deliver nutrients to the patient’s blood during processing outside the patient’s body.  The aim is to stabilize liver function in patients with acute liver failure so that the liver can regenerate or be stabilized until transplant.
