Are there any indications to trend lipase prior to cholecystectomy?

Bottom line: No recommendations or evidence exist that recommend trending lipase prior to a cholecystectomy.
Summary: Conducted searches of DynaMed, PubMed, Embase, and AccessMedicine. Lipase level is unrelated to severity of pancreatitis (See Acute Pancreatitis > Diagnosis > Blood Tests > Lipase. In: DynaMed). One study found that trends for the period from admission to operation for lipase did not have a statistically significant impact upon rates of conversion from laparscopic chlecystctomy to open cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis (JSLS. 1999 Apr-Jun; 3(2): 127–130).
