American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) recommendations on screening for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)

Surveillance for HCC recommended for (AASLD Grade I)

hepatitis B carriers who are
-Asian males > 40 years old
-Asian females > 50 years old
-with family history of HCC
-cirrhotic hepatitis B carriers

African/North American black patients with hepatitis B

patients with cirrhosis, including
-hepatitis C cirrhosis
-stage 4 primary biliary cirrhosis
-genetic hemochromatosis and cirrhosis
-alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency and cirrhosis
