From DynaMed

Aspiration pneumonia

Click “Treatment” on the left menu for full guidelines.

Treatment overview:
-secure airway
-no clearly preferred regimen but broad spectrum antibiotics with activity against gram-negative bacteria and often anaerobes needed
-moxifloxacin may be as effective as ampicillin-sulbactam in treatment of aspiration-associated pulmonary infections (level 2 [mid-level] evidence)
-combination angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor plus amantadine therapy may aid in treatment of geriatric patients with dysphagia hospitalized for community-acquired pneumonia (level 2 [mid-level] evidence)
