What is the standard definition of acute renal failure?

Bottom line:  According to ADQI classification, renal failure is defined as

  • changes in serum creatinine: increase in serum creatine 3 times baseline and GFR decrease by 75% OR a serum creatinine ≥4 mg/dl
  • changes in urine output: Urine output < 0.3 ml/kg/h x 24 hours OR anuria x 12 hours
  • changes in both
