Is a positive rheumatoid factor finding useful in confirming rheumatoid arthritis?

Rheumatoid factor is not specific for RA, but can provide prognostic information because patients with higher levels of rheumatoid factor tend to have more severe disease and higher risk of extraarticular involvement.
